Abdulrazak Gurnah is a Tanzanian-born British novelist and academic. He has written six novels, including the Booker Prize-nominated Paradise (1994), which examines the legacy of colonialism in East Africa. His other works include Admiring Silence (1996), By the Sea (2001), and Memory of Departure (2007). He is a professor of English literature at the University of Kent in Canterbury, England.
