Cynthia Bourgeault

Cynthia Bourgeault is an American author, theologian, and Episcopal priest known for her work in the fields of Christian spirituality and mysticism. Born on July 17, 1947, she has written extensively on contemplative practices, prayer, and the Christian contemplative and wisdom traditions. Bourgeault is recognized as a key popularizer of the practice of centering prayer, a method of silent prayer that emphasizes deep contemplation and personal connection with the divine. She has a keen interest in the works of early Christian mystics and has sought to bring greater awareness to their teachings, as well as to reinterpret traditional Christian concepts through a mystical lens.
