Dee Alexander Brown (1922–2002) was an American historian and author of several books on the American West, including Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, a groundbreaking history of Native Americans in the late 19th century. She was the first female president of the Western History Association and was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for History in 1971. She was a professor of history at the University of Montana and authored several books on the American West, including The American West: The Reader's Companion.
