Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849) was an American writer, poet, editor, and literary critic. He is best known for his tales of mystery and the macabre, and his famous works include "The Raven," "The Tell-Tale Heart," and "The Fall of the House of Usher." He is also credited with inventing the detective fiction genre.
