George Burns (1896 – 1996) was an American comedian, actor, singer, and writer. He was best known for his partnership with his wife, Gracie Allen, with whom he formed the popular comedy duo Burns and Allen. They worked together in vaudeville, films, radio, and television and achieved great success with their comedic timing and chemistry. Burns was also recognized for his distinct raspy voice and cigar-smoking persona. After Allen's death in 1964, Burns continued his career as a solo performer, winning an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in the 1975 film "The Sunshine Boys" at the age of 79. Burns' career spanned almost 80 years, with him continuing to perform until just before his death at the age of 100. He was also a prolific author, writing ten books about his life, his love for Gracie, and his experiences in show business.
