Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

Geshe Kelsang Gyatso is a Tibetan Buddhist monk and teacher who has played a significant role in bringing Tibetan Buddhism to the Western world. Born in Tibet in 1931, he later fled to India during the 1959 Tibetan uprising. Geshe Kelsang has founded numerous meditation centers around the world and is the author of more than twenty books on Buddhism, which cover a range of topics including meditation, philosophy, and tantra. He is the founder of the New Kadampa Tradition-International Kadampa Buddhist Union (NKT-IKBU), a global Buddhist organization. His works are known for their clarity and accessibility, aiming to present ancient Buddhist wisdom in a way that is relevant to contemporary life. Critics, however, have sometimes questioned his methods and views within the broader context of Tibetan Buddhism. Despite controversy, he has been a key figure in promoting Buddhist meditation and thought across the globe.
