Henri Charriere

Henri Charriere (1906-1973) was a French author and convict who wrote the autobiographical novel Papillon, which was later made into a movie. He was convicted of murder and sent to the notorious French penal colony of Devil's Island in French Guiana. He eventually escaped and wrote his book about his experiences in prison and his daring escape.
