John Freeman is an American writer, literary critic, and editor. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1974, he is best known for his work in the publishing industry and his contributions to literary journalism. Freeman was the editor of the literary magazine "Granta" until 2013, and subsequently the founder of the biannual literary journal "Freeman's." His editorship is characterized by his broad, international focus on contemporary literature and his keen sense for emerging writers. Freeman is also the author of several books, which include works of non-fiction, collections of interviews, and anthologies. Notable among them are "How to Read a Novelist," a compendium of his interviews with prominent writers over the years, and "The Tyranny of E-mail," which critically examines the impact of digital communication on our lives.
