Kathi Appelt is a New York Times bestselling children's book author from Texas. She is best known for writing The Underneath, which won a National Book Award and was a Newbery Honor book. Her other works include The True Blue Scouts of Sugar Man Swamp and The Great Tree of Avalon series. She also wrote many picture books and chapter books, and has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors.
