Robert L. Forward

Robert L. Forward (August 15, 1932 – September 21, 2002) was an American physicist, engineer, and science fiction writer. With a career that spanned the realms of both applied physics and imaginative literature, Forward is best known for his innovative concepts in space travel, such as the idea of using a rotating black hole as a form of propulsion, and for his scientifically grounded science fiction novels. As a scientist, he contributed to the fields of gravitational physics and space technology, holding several patents and writing non-fiction works that aimed to make complex scientific ideas accessible to the general public. His science fiction often explored the potential implications of scientific ideas, with a focus on hard science fiction that adhered to rigorous technical details and plausibility. Notable works include "Dragon's Egg" (1980) and its sequel "Starquake" (1985), which depict life on a neutron star, showcasing his ability to blend imaginative storytelling with his deep understanding of physical science.
