Robert Ruark (1915–1965) was an American author, columnist, and big game hunter. He is best known for his adventure and travel writing, including works such as "The Old Man and the Boy" (1957), which is a collection of his magazine columns that depict his own childhood and the life lessons he learned while hunting and fishing with his grandfather. Another prominent work of Ruark's is "Uhuru" (1962), a fictional account of the Mau Mau rebellion in Kenya. With a background in journalism, Ruark's writing style is often noted for its vivid descriptions and engaging storytelling. His love for Africa and his experiences on safari are recurring themes in his books, which have contributed to his lasting reputation as one of the mid-20th century's significant literary figures in the genre of outdoor, adventure, and travel literature.
