Stanley J. Grenz (1950–2005) was a Canadian Christian theologian and ethicist within the Baptist tradition. He was a prolific author, and his works are known for their influence on the development of postmodern evangelical theology. Grenz's scholarship blended evangelical theology with a wide range of interests, including social science, philosophy, and ethics. He sought to craft a theological perspective that was both faithful to historical evangelical commitments and responsive to the contemporary context. One of Grenz's most significant contributions to theology was his emphasis on the idea of community as central to understanding the nature of the Christian faith, as best exemplified in his book "Theology for the Community of God." This work and others show his holistic approach to theology, where the relational nature of God informs our understanding of the church, human identity, and ethical living. Grenz served as a professor at various institutions, authored numerous books and articles, and was widely respected for his work in helping to shape a more thoughtful and culturally engaged evangelical theology.
