What is The Wild Robot about?

The ocean is fierce, and the shipwreck is inevitable. After being tossed about by waves, five crates wash up on the shore of an island. Although four are immediately smashed to pieces by rocks, one crate makes it to land in one piece. Inside is a single robot, Roz, who wakes up when she is accidentally activated by some curious sea otters and finds herself in a wilderness for which she was not designed.

Completely ignorant of the fact that the island is not her planned destination, Roz sets out to make a life for herself here and gain the trust of her animal neighbors. But they have never seen a creature like her, and they’re not quite as ready to welcome her into their community. Roz must learn to form connections with those different from her and learn how to survive in the wild, especially when her mysterious past catches up to her new home.

What age is appropriate to read The Wild Robot?

Why do people like The Wild Robot?

The Wild Robot currently has a 4.75 star rating on Pango. ML Dunker writes that: “This is a cute middle grade story about a robot who washes up on an island. The tropes are found family, kindness is rewarded, enemies to friends (although it is more like strangers to friends). A good first book in the Wild Robot series.” The writing style is very accessible and engaging for young readers, although adults reading the books will also find themselves charmed by the story.
