This is one of those rare occasions when the movie is definitely better then the book. However I would say that they are completely different stories. The book was good but I was really hoping it would have been like the movie or better. It was too slow and not as exciting as I wanted it to be.

While vastly different from the movie (I feel like the movie was just inspired by the book and not actually based on the book?), Alice Hoffman can have her readers hooked and emotionally invested in the story before finishing the 1st page. I look forward to reading more about the Owens women.

Unfortunately I like the movie far better than the book. The two are very different. My biggest struggle with the book was there was more narration than there was dialoge. The characters barely breathe a word. The story overall also felt very anti-climactic 🤷🏻♀️
