Whether you are a fan of fantasy books, adventure books or are looking for space books, “The Last Lumenian” is something you need to pick up & read today! My favorite theme that S.G. Blaise depicts through Lilla is the “Chosen One” theme, especially how it is combined with destiny & Good vs. Evil. Like many cinematic & literary characters, Lilla’s destiny as the chosen one is something she tries to fight as the sci-fi book unfolds. This struggle is a large reason that this action-adventure book is a great coming of age novel. Another theme I really enjoyed seeing is the parallel of outdated traditions & cultural norms that women have suffered from. It is exciting to read because Lilla overcomes all of these suffrages & that is part of her destiny in this action sci-fi book: conquering archaic & often one-sided set of rules & traditions. I also loved that Blaise broke away from the princess being seen as the damsel in distress. In this rebel princess chapter book, Lilla is in charge of her destiny, hopes & dreams. She is the heroine that her world needs. The romance within this book is also done tastefully. While romance is a sub-theme in the book, it is done tastefully & without distraction from the main story. The romance that is depicted seems sweet & harmless, but Blaise keeps the focus on the characters’ thoughts surrounding these encounters. As for the author, the fact that this is S.G. Blaise’s writing debut is not something I would even begin to think was true. As an author she is detailed, thorough & creates characters with wonderful depth & character arcs. Additionally, this author is nothing short of a worldbuilder, galaxy-builder is probably more accurate. Blaise connects with the audience very well in multiple ways: her easy-to-read style while delivering compelling storytelling, her themes that every reader can get behind, & the wide age-range this book captures.
