Un-Men was a short-lived comic book series published from 2007 to 2008 under DC's Vertigo imprint. Written by John Whalen with illustrations by Mike Hawthorne, the series featured the Un-Men, a race of genetically engineered freaks created by mad scientist Anton Arcane in the pages of Swamp Thing#2. This series follows events established in the 1994 Vertigo limited series American Freak: A Tale of the Un-Men which introduced the character of Damien Kane. Kane was heralded as something of an Un-Man messiah because, unlike other generations of Un-Men, he was born with his particular condition and was not created in a laboratory.
