Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989) follows Captain Kirk and the crew of the USS Enterprise as they face a rogue Vulcan named Sybok, Spock’s half-brother. Sybok hijacks the Enterprise with his followers, using his unique ability to heal emotional pain to gain control of the crew. He seeks the mythical planet Sha Ka Ree, where he believes he will find God. Upon reaching the Great Barrier at the galaxy’s center, they encounter an entity claiming to be God, but it turns out to be a malevolent being seeking a starship to escape its prison. Kirk, Spock, and McCoy see through the deception, and with help from the Klingons, they defeat the entity. Sybok sacrifices himself to stop the creature, and the Enterprise crew escapes, reaffirming their belief in each other rather than false gods.
