Wendy Beckett, better known as Sister Wendy Beckett, was a British nun and art historian who achieved celebrity status in the 1990s through her television series discussing art history in an accessible and personal manner. Born in South Africa in 1930 and raised in Scotland, she entered a convent at the age of 16 and later graduated from Oxford University. After teaching for several years, she returned to monastic life and began to study and write about art. Her television programs helped to popularize art appreciation among a wide audience. Sister Wendy was recognized for her keen insights, unassuming manner, and distinctive speech. She passed away in December 2018.
