Seller Description
FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING, COMPLETE NUMBER LINE. I see about 10copies for sale, priced $47-$209. Interesting book about race relations in the post-Civil War South from a new perspective: field sports. After the war, African Americans used their mastery of hunting and fishing to obtain jobs previously denied to them. Whites viewed this as a serious threat to the labor system. The author’s research uses slave narratives, sportsmen’s recollections, fish and game club records & sports periodicals to give a unique perspective on the struggle for independence from the Civil War to the 1920s. 24 of 230 pages contain neat highlighting (see photos). No DJ - I acquired this at an estate sale where the homeowner had discarded all DJs from their library. Ships in a box, protected with bubble wrap. (SW2) (2F)
